There's no easy way to say it: I have to leave Kansas. It's no longer safe here. The state legislation has me & mine in its sights for harassment, disenfranchisement, and other oppression. I'm teaming up with a couple of my loved ones to relocate the three of us to Colorado.
While living in Hutchinson, and later in Lawrence, I have had the joy of connecting with many wonderful, kind, amazing people. I love y'all. I wouldn't leave if it wasn't an emergency. I'm hoping that, since it is an emergency, I can ask my fantastic network of friends and loved ones to have my back one last time.
I've been unable to work for several months due to a severe and permanent back injury, in addition to the mysterious fatigue that I've been dealing with for many years. Long before the events that triggered this move, I was already struggling. Now the situation is untenable, and I don't have backup funds to support moving. That's where y'all can come in, if you so choose.
This fundraiser is primarily intended to give me some margin time with which to find a (preferably remote) job once we've relocated. My work and volunteer experience qualifies me for the sort of admin work I can do without needing to be on my feet, and I'm confident I can find such an arrangement in Colorado. The snag is that I need to live somewhere, and I have to eat, etc, and those things won't pause for me to get set up with employment.
If you have it to spare (and only if it's to spare), please consider making whatever size contribution makes sense for your budget & your heart.
