On December 1st, our lives were irrevocably changed. In just one night, we lost the love and warmth of our home, nearly all of our belongings, and our beloved two-year-old cat, Clover. Though Clover has crossed the rainbow bridge, her memory lives on in our hearts. Meanwhile, our surviving cat, Hahn, bravely battles the aftermath of smoke inhalation and trauma, holding on to the hope of healing. We found ourselves barefoot in the snow, wrapped in only grief and uncertainty. But through our tears, we see a glimmer of hope. At this age, it’s a strange kind of fear to watch a lifetime turn to ash and be told we have to start over.
Our temporary housing is ending soon, and we’re trying to find a place to rent while we figure out how and when the real cleanup will even begin.
We’re doing our best just to stay afloat, replacing the basics and trying to hold on to some sense of normal in the middle of all this.
We are so grateful for everyone who has donated, shared, or simply checked in on us, but it still feels like we’re standing at a very unfamiliar crossroads, not quite sure what comes next.

It’s been 30 days since the fire, and we’re still doing our best to find our footing. We’re getting close to the point where we’ll need to find somewhere else to stay, but we haven’t been able to secure stable housing or gather the funds we need yet. We’re taking things one day at a time.
Phil continues to give everything he has. He works nonstop trying to get us into a safer, more comfortable place financially, but it feels like every time we fix one thing, something else breaks. Now the truck needs brakes and tires, and we’ve been dealing with electrical issues — brake lights going out, repairs piling up. It’s been a lot, but we’re still trying to stay hopeful and positive.
On top of everything, we haven’t even been able to begin the cleanup at the house yet. That’s still a huge, pressing weight hanging over us, and we’re trying to figure out how to tackle it when we’re already stretched so thin.
We want to thank everyone who has helped us, prayed for us, or kept us in their thoughts. Your kindness means more than you know.
And on a brighter note, our cat Hahn is doing much better. He’s eating well, being affectionate, and even trying to be social again. His little improvements help keep our spirits up.

We need your help now more than ever.
Every day we return to what’s left of our home, boarding up broken spaces and trying to salvage the few important things we can. Two nights ago, in the bitter cold, a water pipe burst. By sheer luck we arrived within 30 minutes and managed to shut off the water before it flooded everything. Tonight, we found the power company has locked the meter, leaving us without electricity in the middle of this crisis.
We are now urgently seeking fire restoration teams to assess the damage to the load-bearing walls. Without this structural work, we cannot begin to rebuild. Cosmetic repairs will have to wait — right now, it’s about safety and survival.
Our dear neighbors, and the way friends, family, and even strangers have shared our Spotfund daily has been a lifeline. Your generosity is the only reason we still have hope that we’ll be able to stay sheltered somewhere safe while we face the long road ahead.
Through all of this, our sweet Hahn kitty has been a source of comfort. Nine days after the fire, he is finally coming out of hiding and beginning to play again. He was treated for smoke inhalation, and we are watching him closely, grateful for every small sign of recovery.
