Hello everyone! I'm Kimi Bivins, and I didn't realize how costly it would be to renovate and finally finish my mom's home. Back in the early '80s, my grandmother discovered an old 1950s house and moved it to the lot where it currently stands. This house was meant for my mom in the future. Originally, it had just two rooms, but my uncle divided it into two bedrooms, a small bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. In 1989, my mom and her three children, including me, moved in.
Fast forward to the early '90s, my mom and grandmother began an addition on the other side of the house. While some work was completed, it was never fully finished as many of the elderly workers passed away. Over the years, the addition became a storage space for my mom's hoarding tendencies. The vision my mom and grandma had for the house was never realized, and my grandmother passed away in 2001 without seeing it completed.
In December 2023, while I was living in my own house, my mom expressed a desire to one day put up a Christmas tree. Right then, I knew I had to take action. I moved in with my mom and stepdad June 2024 to start the process of decluttering both our things and hers. It took a long time to persuade her to let me begin, but once she mentioned the Christmas tree, I knew she was ready for change. Eventually, she allowed the home to be transferred into my name.
I'm currently in the early stages of this project. Our financial resources are limited; my mom and stepdad are on a fixed income, and as a medically retired veteran, my income is limited too. Though I work as a real estate broker, there aren't many houses selling in this area, and the economy is tough.
I've decided to share our story with the public. Will you help me fulfill my mom's dream of completing the home she always wanted? My mom is such a simple person; it doesn't take much to make her happy, and that motivates me to see this project through to the end. She truly deserves it!
