On June 6, 2016, Nicholas Ikonya Kiarie and Gladys Kungu Ikonya were in their Nairobi, Kenya home, when a band of men invaded their residence, beat them both (knocking Gladys' teeth out), stole their personal valuables and raped Gladys repeatedly - forcing Nicholas to watch the entire thing. It was a horrific offence to their liberties, marriage and family. They have never completely recovered from it.
After securing a sponsor, they immigrated to the United States and were able to secure work: Nicholas, as an Uber driver and Gladys, as a care-giver to those with end-of-life issues. They bought their first American home and were achieving the American dream. Then the unthinkable happened: Nicholas was accused of driving under the influence. No charges were ever filed; no police incident report... but ICE was contacted and Nicholas was taken into custody and sent to a federal detention facility.
Gladys sold their home to pay for the $12,500 release bond. Then Nicholas was re-arrested, and his car was sold to pay lawyer's fees. This couple is a hard-working couple. They are trying their best to fit in with the American way of life. They have had to overcome scars that no couple should endure in this life.
Will you help them get back on their feet?
