Meet the Barto family.  They are aligned on just one New Year's resolution in 2024: to help Alison in every way possible as she fights a cancer diagnosis.

For those of you who don't know her, Alison Lyons-Barto is a massage therapist and she has specialized training in oncology massage. Much of her professional career has been dedicated to bringing comfort to people whose journey she now shares. She is a loving wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is active in her church and her community.  She has a smile that lights up a room and you want to know her. Be her. She is you. She is me. She is every woman who thinks they know the path their life will take...until suddenly they don't.

Fighting illness at the start of a new year means health insurance deductibles have reset. Medical costs will quickly add up. Her husband, Christopher, has taken FMLA but the blessing of being present for Alison is offset by not receiving a full paycheck. With two kids in college and Alison unable to work right now, this campaign can help ensure everyone’s focus stays united on her fight for health.

Alison and her family believe in the power of prayer and in miracles.  Through this cancer journey Alison has felt God’s presence sustaining her.  She has seen his handiwork  daily while in the hospital and through the people in her life.  He has painted beautiful sunrises over the Connecticut hills, a full beautiful rainbow on a cloudy day and in the people she has met along the way.

If you are able to make a donation, we thank you. But regardless, please pray for Alison.

For those who may want to give through another platform, you may also Venmo a gift directly to @Bartoa.

On behalf of the Barto family as well as Alison's sisters, Katrina and Melanie, I wanted to share with this community that our dear friend Alison passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family in the afternoon of July 31st, 2024. This sunset just outside of Alison’s home from last night felt very meaningful.  Please know that Alison loved her community – you all – so vibrantly and she knew how loved she was.

Chris, Raven and Mason prefer text reach outs over phone calls in this tender time especially as Raven and Mason begin to prepare to return to college. In addition to the notes here, the cards, the meals, the advice and connections that were given so generously, many of you also gave generously financially to help offset household costs and medical bills as well as recently for Alison’s care during hospice.  Any funds given via the SpotFund or Venmo or checks not already used for Alison’s care will go to Raven and Mason’s education.

Alison's journey is very fluid, so I thought I would provide another quick update.

While Alison has a very strong and multi-discipline team of doctors and nurses who are working hard to help her pursue her treatment goals and stay at home with her family, she was admitted to the hospital last week. Her time in the hospital is focused on trying to control her nausea and some additional procedures to relieve pressure and support her comfort. We are hoping she will be discharged this week but when she is discharged she will need additional hands-on skilled nursing care at home moving forward.

The Barto's (and Katrina and Melanie!) are extremely grateful for everyone's continued prayers and support.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your incredible support and generosity to Alison Lyons Barto and her family.

Alison continues to fight her battle against Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. As I'm sure you know, this road is neither straight nor easy. While her most recent scan delivered good news - the tumor shrunk after this latest round of chemo and her cancer markers were down overall - she was admitted to the hospital with a high fever and pneumonia. This week, she underwent an inpatient abdominal procedure to address some of her digestive symptoms. She continues to face health challenges that come with being immunocompromised, and bravely manages the side effects from her cancer medications and treatments.

Please keep her and her entire family in your prayers.

Your donations to date have been instrumental in helping the Bartos meet medical and daily expenses. Soon after her diagnosis, Alison closed her massage therapy office and her husband, Chris, took FMLA to be by her side as they began navigating this unexpected journey together. For those whose lives have been touched by cancer, you know that this kind of diagnosis means redefining "normal" on just about every level. And as people work hard to meet this new normal, expenses don't go on pause. This is one area where we can help.

We would greatly appreciate your continued support and social media shares of this Spot Fund account. Note that Spot Fund does not take a percentage of donations (GoFundMe does!). Expenses related to Alison's recent travel to the beach in Florida were donated or paid for by extended family. Every dollar contributed through Spot Fund goes to Alison to cover essential expenses.

Regardless of whether you can donate, please keep her in your heart. And thank you from the bottom of mine.

Sincerely,
Maureen
