As many of you know, our brother Juan was found with a brain tumor on April 28th, 2023.
The journey since his diagnosis has been full of highs and lows. And so much in between. It has been quite the year, and our brother has fought along the way.

The last couple of months have been extremely difficult as he found himself declining once again. In and out of hospitals. It has been a challenge. Though he continues to fight, Juan is at a place where he’s not able to walk, talk or move much.

Brother requires extra special care, special foods, special liquids, supplies and more. As his familia, we once again, humbly ask for your prayers, well wishes, positive energy and if possible, any amount to help relieve some of the financial stress we are facing in order to provide the best care possible for Juan.

After hospitalization at UCSF, Juan was stable enough to be transferred to Monterey County. He was transferred on Wednesday afternoon, June 28th to begin rehabilitation. So far, rehabilitation is going very well! He meets daily with speech, physical and occupational therapists.
He is much more verbal than he’s been in a very long time, and is constantly encouraged by the therapists and staff. He’s participating in group meals and even doing (sitting) yoga with other patients.

Next up comes radiation on the remaining tumor (along with continued rehabilitation). His team is putting together a plan for radiation that will begin in the next 2 weeks. That will be another hurdle to overcome.

There’s still a long road of recovery ahead and we’re hopeful that no other complications will arise so he can continue with the daily progress.

Thank you once again for your comments, prayers, positive vibes, thoughts, donations, messages, etc. Our familia is truly humbled and grateful for you all.

Happy Monday
This weekend was pretty good for Juan. He’s been stable. He’s been fully awake, eating all his meals and continuing with physical and speech therapy.

He’s still not very verbal, but definitely interacting and aware of everything
If all goes well this week, there is a possibility that he be transferred to rehabilitation in Monterey County and begin that rehab process/recovery.

UCSF doctors and staff are continuously monitoring him and having daily scans, exams, etc as needed to make sure all is stable.

If all goes well…he’s definitely going to begin that recovery process.

THANK YOU to everyone for their continued support as he continues on this  journey. It has been quite the battle and this past week, things are looking more stable. It will be a day to day ❤️‍🩹

We are eternally grateful for everyone 🙏🏼

More details on brother’s situation:

He underwent a 9 hr surgery on 5•3. Because of the tumor’s location, they were only able to resect 1/2 of it. He was eventually discharged to an acute rehab closer to home, but shortly thereafter started to experience similar symptoms compared to what made him seek medical care in the first place. He was transferred back to UCSF for brain surgery #2 a few weeks ago. He had to get a VP shunt, as the residual tumor and swelling didn’t allow his CSF to drain accordingly. He has faced a series of complications ranging from a pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, brain bleed, brain swelling, and hydrocephalus. The road to recovery seems to be getting longer everyday, as we did not anticipate to have so many setbacks. Additionally, he will need 6 weeks of M-F radiation.
It has been quite the journey thus far…

It was a tough decision to ask for help. We are forever grateful to everyone who has donated, kept him in prayer, sends messages, food, gift cards, etc.

Juan, his fiancé and us, his family wouldn’t be able to get through these days without all the love and support of everyone ♥️
