I’ll first start off by saying we as a collective need to support new works and live theatre. Without live theatre many people would lose all meaning in their life. Live theatre is a powerful medium that has been over shadowed by tv and movies, and without live theatre, either mediums would never have been what they are now. Now that I’m off my soap box I’ll talk about another important issue.
Summary
When a young woman is facing an obstacle in her life that seems far too large to defeat. An unlikely friend in the form of Joan of Arc enters along with a homeless man named Marty. Will Joan find her courage?
This play means the world to me for a variety of reasons. It’s the strongest example of my work so far. It’s a beast of a show that tackles some very real topics. Topics like sexual assault and grief. It tells the story of a young woman named Joan who was sexual assaulted. When she loses her father it all seems to go wrong, and now she is left to pick up the pieces. But she’s not alone and no one is ever truly alone. There is always someone who has your back whether that be the National sexual assault hotline, National suicide prevention hotline or someone like Joan of Arc in the flesh. Someone will be there to hear your story and help you. Now if there is one thing this play will teach you is we must own our courage, we must believe victims and we must keep fighting no matter what our battle is.
Now the logistics this is a play with music Joan our main character is a Jazz singer the music is in the process of being composed. I have had a hand in it, but more importantly I’m working with the amazingly talented Katie Horner. The snippet included is of her singing one of the title songs Red.
I would really like to be able to pay my collaborators what they are worth, but In a world where my main skill is playing make believe for pocket change…I can not do it on my own.
We are hoping to put a workshop together for this musical by the start of the new year. With your donation, you would be helping this story materialize, and maybe just maybe the story can help others along the way.
Not to get too deep into my can of worms, but if you are worried that I am a man writing a story about something I have not experienced. I would implore you not to judge a book by its cover. I am a survivor myself. SA does not discriminate it can happen to anyone. That is why this story is so important.
All that being said in true Adian fashion it is a dark comedy lots of laughs lots of tears. Any amount you can spare will help.
