My name is Mo, a musician living in NYC. I met Amera on Instagram through a mutual friend, Iman, a medical worker whom I am also fundraising for. Amera is a midwife in Gaza who worked for UNRWA before all international funding was removed and she lost her job. She has two little children - Hana who just turned 4 years old, and Mazen, who is 2. Mazen has had many health issues since his birth in the middle this genocide - severe skin rashes, eye problems, balance issues that affect his walking, and he was recently diagnosed with a vascular disorder.
They live in a tent in Al-Zawaida, due to their home being destroyed by the occupation and being constantly on the run to avoid being killed.
The current priorities for them are as follows:
- the purchase of a 250-liter water barrel, so that they can store the water that is delivered ever 2 weeks. That way they have clean water to drink every day, they can also wash their hands, take showers, and wash dishes. The barrel costs 550 shekels which is approximately 189 USD as of the creation of this fundraiser.
- monthly rent for the pilot of land on which they pitch their tent. It is insane that people under siege from a foreign occupation should still have to pay rent, but unfortunately, occupation collaborators control much of the day-to day life of Palestinians living in Gaza. Amera needs 150 shekels a months or approximately 52 USD
- diapers for Mazen. Many people in Gaza are forced to use plastic bags since diapers are expensive, but this leads to painful rashes that are difficult to clear up. Costs vary, depending on the scarcity of diapers in the market.
- ongoing medical treatment for Mazen. He is on the waiting list to see a neurologist at the Nasser Medical Complex in July 2026. Any medical condition that is not considered immediately life-threatening is expensive to treat.
Like most families in Gaza, Amera doesn't have a bank account where the funds could be directly transferred. Instead, I will be sending her all funds via PayPal.
