With winter storm Stella upon us, it’s worth realizing that 60,000 people will sleep in NYC shelters tonight according to the Coalition for the Homeless.
The number of homeless New Yorkers sleeping each night in municipal shelters is now 91% higher than it was ten years ago. An average of 23,000 children are sleeping in homeless shelters throughout New York City.
The Coalition for the Homeless is the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women and children. Affordable housing, sufficient food and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society.
