Across the border in Alasha Camp in Oudai, Chad, more than 1,000 primary school children are trying to learn under some of the hardest conditions imaginable. These are children who fled the ongoing violence in Darfur, Sudan, many of them carrying nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Families have lost homes, communities, and stability and now these children are at risk of losing something even more precious: their education.
Today, classes in Alasha Camp take place under the open sun, with students sitting on the ground, writing in the sand because there are no notebooks, no pens, no pencils, and no backpacks. Teachers, who are doing everything they can to catch students up after years of disruption, work without basic teaching tools. There are no chairs, no mats, no boards, and no shade to protect young children from the heat.
Dar-Aid, a New York–based nonprofit founded by youth. As an organization created by people who have lived displacement and understand its impact, our mission is deeply personal. We believe that every child no matter where they were born or what crisis they survived deserves the chance to learn, dream, and build their future.
This fundraiser will directly support the 1,000 students enrolled in the primary school at Alasha Camp. With your help, we will provide:
Notebooks, pens, pencils, and erasers so students can finally write and learn properly.
Backpacks so they can carry their supplies with dignity.
Sitting mats so children no longer sit on hot sand during lessons.
Shade structures to protect kids and teachers from extreme temperatures.
Boards and chairs for teachers, enabling proper classroom instruction.
Every contribution no matter the size has a real, immediate impact.
$5 can give a child notebooks and writing tools.
$15 can give a full school kit.
$25 can support a student and help provide seating or shade.
Our goal is not only to supply materials, but to restore hope, stability, and normalcy for children who have endured far too much. Education is the first step toward healing and rebuilding. When you support this campaign, you are telling a child in Alasha Camp: “Your future matters.”
Thank you for standing with the children of Darfur and helping us provide the tools they need to learn, thrive, and dream again.
