My bat mitzvah project involved creating this video PSA for Good Karma Dog Rescue. Good Karma was started by one of my school teachers who ran the Sign Language Club in my third grade where we learned how to sign different songs.
I created this video on the importance and usefulness of KONG, which is a dog toy. I made this because people need to know that there are no laws on what dogs toys are safe and such. With more people getting dogs during quarantine they might not know what they are getting themselves into and just buying the cheapest dog toys or ones they think are safe because they are popular. That’s why I suggest the KONG.
KONG makes sure that every toy they make is safe and fun for the dog. This is important to me because we are hoping to get a dog and I now realize from my research that even some of my friends that have dogs are using toys not good for them, such as raw hide bones.
This project relates to Jewish values because of tikkun olam, helping the world. So many people are unaware of how dog toys are made including some of my friends who have had dogs for years and even multiple dogs. After doing research I discovered the harmful effects of dog toys that aren't regulated and I don’t want that happening to any of our neighbors’ or friends’ dogs.
Another Jewish value that relates to this project is tza’ar ba’alei chayim. Tza'ar ba’alei chayim is prohibiting cruelty of animals. Along with this is responsibility for animals. That includes making sure that animals and pets are correctly fed, cared for, watered, and given a home. This relates to my bat mitzvah project because people giving their dog the correct toy is part of this value.
If you buy a toy for your pet that is unsafe, this is considered animal cruelty. So, I hope that, if you are a dog owner or thinking of getting a dog during the pandemic, my video will help you find safe toys for your dog.
I have contributed $180.00 from my savings to Good Karma as part of my bat mitzvah project. I hope you will consider supporting Good Karma.
100% of donations made through this *spotfund web page will go directly to Good Karma Dog Rescue. If you provide an email address at the time of donation, you will receive an email receipt from *spotfund for tax-deductible purposes.
