My name is Frank Bakelac. I am a husband of 35 years, a father, and a grandfather. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and lived most of my life in Boro Park, right across from Maimonides Medical Center, where I ended up working for 25 years as a locksmith.
My passion is classic and muscle cars, which, for the time being, has been put on hold, although my fellow car club members from Legendary Muscle Cars always make sure I'm included one way or another.
My journey with cancer began long before I was diagnosed; my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was taken from us because of it.
Feeling that loss when I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer, I promised my family I'd do whatever it takes to beat it and be there for them for a long time to come.
My treatment plan consists of a round of chemo for 6 weeks with 4 weeks off for the next 3 years, and as a consequence, the extra medical expenses have become a challenge for me and my family. Whatever help and support is given would be greatly appreciated.
It's not been easy, and I still have a long road ahead of me but with the support of my loving family, friends, and my faith in God, I know I will conquer this.
