For the past two years, I've faced the hardship of homelessness here in Tucson. My journey has been shaped by mental health challenges, and being diagnosed with a serious mental illness (SMI) has added complexity to my everyday life. Currently, I'm staying at a women's shelter, a place that has offered me refuge and hope. However, with my exit date set for September 14th, I'm at a crucial turning point. The shelter has found me a place to live, but to secure it, I need to cover a deposit and first month's rent, totaling $850—an amount that's out of reach considering my monthly income of $943.
Navigating these daily struggles has been daunting, yet I remain hopeful and resilient. Finding a stable home is a vital step towards regaining control over my life and continuing my mental health journey. I am reaching out in this moment of need, hoping to bridge the gap and move into a safe and permanent place. This opportunity to transition into my own space means more than words can convey.
