When Khloe, aka "Khlo-Khlo", came into my life eight years ago, she was this tiny, four-pound bundle of fur that seemed to fill the whole room with her gentle presence. She may have been born in 2013, but it feels like she's been part of the family forever. We've made so many memories from our walks, our one sided conversations (she makes a great listener), and her just growing up. Khlo-Khlo has been more than just a pet; she's my steadfast companion through life’s twists and turns.
In recent months, life has thrown us a curve ball. As Khloe has aged, she's faced challenges like hip and knee dysplasia and a collapsing trachea. I vividly remember the day when a simple attempt to pick her up led to her yelping in pain, her cries echoing through the room for what felt like an eternity. It was a stark reminder of the urgency of her condition, urging me to rush her to the vet.
Despite visiting a low-income clinic in Manhattan, the focus seemed to be more on the cost than on Khloe’s fragile state. As someone who recently graduated and is searching for stable employment, I had to make the tough decision to cancel her insurance because the monthly premium was just too much. Leaving that clinic with nothing but a daunting list of costs was heartbreaking. The doctor mentioned diabetes or the possibility of a crucial knee ligament that might be on it's way out. We couldn't find out because we didn't have enough for the diagnostic tests that would be needed.
I never imagined I'd be turning to something like SpotFund, but here we are. I'm holding onto hope that there are people who understand the special bond between human and pet. To see her lose her balance when she walks breaks my heart and it's even worse to know I cannot take care of her like I promised her the day we met. So, any donation helps, as they say no donation is too small. And all the donations will go to Khloe's vet treatments including doctor visits, and prescriptions, and surgery if necessary.
