My name is Jennifer, and in 2020, my life was shattered. My oldest daughter, Jolene, was removed from my care by Stark County Child Protective Services – not because of any harm I had done to her – but because of an accusation that her biological father had hurt her. I was – and am – completely devastated by her removal and her continued absence from my life. Jolene was my little miracle after 18 miscarriages and 2 tubal pregnancies.
In November of 2023, I had another little girl named Jolie with my husband, Ronnie. She was removed from our care at the hospital when she was only one day old. Even though Ronnie was not the person accused of harming my older daughter, Jolene, CPS gave Ronnie no opportunity to be the custodial parent of Jolie. Neither he nor I have ever been accused of hurting a child, yet our daughter was taken from us.
In Jolene’s case, there were misrepresentations, falsehoods, and biased behavior toward me. Now, the same is happening toward both myself and Ronnie with Jolie’s case. This has been observed and noted by people both within and outside of the CPS system. I faithfully worked the case plan set for me in Jolene’s case, and now in Jolie’s case, but no matter how hard I (and Ronnie) work, or how faithful we are in our visits, we’re still considered unsuitable parents, though neither of us has ever harmed a child. Subjective conclusions are made about us not being able to care for a child even though we both have done exactly that in the past.
We’ve made mistakes in our lives – we own that. We’re also survivors of terrible things - but we’re stable and in a stable relationship. We build each other up and we go to church and believe in God. We have a solid support system around us now. We know we can be good and loving parents if given the chance. To not be given the chance to parent when we’ve never harmed a child is a terrible and painful injustice.
I’ve created this fundraiser to get help in raising funds for an attorney who will truly listen and help right this injustice. Ronnie has had help with getting an attorney for Jolie’s case, but I want to find an attorney who will specifically represent me so that I can be reunited with both of my precious daughters.
