WHO WE ARE

Chabad on Campus Stellenbosch, under the leadership of Rabbi Chananyah and Eliana Duthie, is dedicated to nurturing the diverse Jewish community at Stellenbosch University. The Duthie Family is excited to be in Stellenbosch, South Africa, to support and engage with the growing number of Jewish students on campus.

WHY STELLENBOSCH?

Stellenbosch is located 50 kilometres (31 miles) east of Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa and has had a Jewish presence ever since 1885. There are currently over 150 Jewish students attending Stellenbosch University, one of South Africa's most prominent Universities. Due to the rich agriculture in the area, Stellenbosch lies in the top wine-producing region in South Africa. The Cape Winelands are currently experiencing a boom in tourism. South Africa is attractive to tourists from abroad due to the currency exchange. (1 USD = 18 Rand, 1 EUR = 19 Rand, 1 NIS = 5 Rand).

INVEST IN JEWISH LIFE

By donating to Chabad on Campus Stellenbosch, you will provide Jews in Stellenbosch, regardless of their affiliation or knowledge of Judaism, with:

  • An inclusive and loving home away from home
  • Warm and inviting Shabbat and Yom Tov meals, including kosher food during the week
  • Collective learning opportunities and 1:1's with the Rabbi and Rebbetzin
  • Activities and programs for Jewish students on campus and local Jewish community members
  • Access to a Kosher market where locals and tourists can purchase hot, fresh, homemade food, Kosher wines, takeout for Shabbos, or hear a shtickle Torah
  • And so much more...

THANK YOU

Your generous donation creates a thriving and vibrant Jewish community in Stellenbosch. May Hashem bless you and yours with good health, wealth, and blessings.

Thank you for making Chabad on Campus Stellenbosch, the Yid's home.

Warmly,

Rabbi Chananyah and Eliana Duthie

Dear Friend,

We trust the new year has been off to a successful and happy start for you and your loved ones. Baruch Hashem, the shlichus is going well. 15 students joined us on Rosh Hashanah and hear shofar. Our Friday night meals feature 30+ students and our weekly lunch and learns host 10 students.

We come before you now with an urgent request.

Two weeks ago, our car broke-down beyond repair. At this moment in time, a car is CRITICAL to our shlichus and without one we must resort to Uber. At present, we are gathering funds to purchase a new, reliable car.

Please consider partnering with us and donating to our new car fund 🚗. We only need $2500.

Anytime that we would drive our new car to help a fellow Jew learn Torah or do a mitzvah the zechut would be entirely YOURS.

Wishing all a G'mar Chasima Tovah and a sweet New Year,
Rabbi Chananyah and Eliana Duthie

40 Students at the Welcome Back Braai!

Last night the welcome back braai at the Stellenbosch shul was THE place to be. 40 students came together to eat, drink, and be merry amongst their Jewish colleagues. Overheard last night: "It's so cool to have a Rabbi that knows how to braai." Thank YOU for bringing delicious kosher food and Yiddishkeit to Stellenbosch!
