Our beloved Shanti must undergo another knee surgery. We were hoping and praying that this day wouldn't come. She injured her knee in April 2024 while we were on an epic hike for the solar eclipse (don't worry, we didn't miss it!). Her vet took some X-rays and determined that it was 90% likely she would need the intensive TPLO surgery. He reassured us that we could wait until the injury became more painful for her, since the surgery is so intense and requires 2 weeks of crate rest, and then 6-8 more weeks of no stairs, no jumping, and keeping her at a slow walking speed. We've done it before, so I know we can do it again!
Her first surgery was covered by my student loan (thanks, Department of Education!). Now I am repaying that loan (among others) and living the Asheville hustle life (it's expensive to live here!!). Turns out it's also more expensive to have the surgery here. Shanti and I will be heading back to St. Louis to have her trusted former vet do the surgery.
Here is a breakdown of our upcoming costs that we will need help with:
- $3,500 for the surgery (it would cost 2K more to do it here in Asheville!)
- estimated $300 for travel expenses
- $1,200 for lost wages during Shanti's first two weeks of recovery
