A Heart-Wrenching Appeal
On May 8, 2021, a horrific attack on the Sayed ul-Shuhada School in Kabul shattered the lives of countless young Hazara girls, aged between 8 and 18. In this senseless act of violence, 85 innocent Hazara lives were tragically cut short, and over 150 were left wounded.
These young students, filled with the promise of youth and dreams of a brighter future, became victims of a monstrous crime.
The Hazara people, a predominantly Shia Muslim ethnic minority, have endured decades of persecution and discrimination in Afghanistan. Despite their contributions to Afghan society, they continue to be targeted and marginalized. This attack on innocent children is a stark reminder of the ongoing suffering endured by the Hazara community.
These young girls, whose lives were just beginning to unfold, were cruelly robbed of their right to education and life. Their classrooms, sanctuaries of knowledge and growth, were transformed into scenes of carnage. Seven of these courageous survivors found refuge in Turkey, their journey marked by pain, suffering, and hope. Yet, their battle is far from over. Their bodies bear the scars of violence, and their spirits grapple with the trauma of that fateful day.
