Help Richard Abram Beat Cancer
We are appealing to you to help our dear friend Richard Abram, founder of the non-profit Kingwood Kindness beat cancer. In April of this year, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Richard has been a resident of Kingwood, TX for over 20 years. He has continuously shown selflessness and compassion when it comes to helping others in need in his community and Houston's surrounding areas. When Hurricane Harvey struck in 2017, Richard and his wife Dawn saw a need for the community to have a local center that could respond promptly to individuals in times of crisis. That is when the 501(c)(3) non-profit Kingwood Kindness was born. What started as a couple handing out water, food, and cleaning supplies to those whose homes had been destroyed by Hurricane Harvey…has now led to an organization that has fed hundreds of families, collected thousands of toys for children on Christmas, met the various needs of those in the community, and has become a trusted donation center for those who would like to give back to others.
Richard has been in so much pain that he has not been able to be as active in the community as he once was. This has completely devasted him since he thrives off of being able to help others. He is still undergoing testing for possible metastases (spreading of the cancer) and he has recently been referred to the MD Anderson Lymphoma & Myeloma Center for possible myeloma as well.
The cancer diagnosis is unfortunately not the only medical issue Richard has been dealing with. They have also found some issues with his spine and he is unable to proceed with the hip replacement that was planned before the cancer diagnosis. Not to mention, he has to continue to manage and pay for various other medical issues on top of his cancer treatment.
Richard has a great team of doctors and MD Anderson Cancer Center. However, the treatment is grueling, painful, and costly. Richard drives about an hour to MD Anderson Cancer Center every few days. Parking, gas, co-pays, co-insurance, and medication costs are quickly adding up. His wife Dawn has been a great support system and hand and prepares all of his meals according to his doctor's recommendations. However, the recommended foods that Richard is supposed to eat has also greatly increased their grocery bill as well.
We are asking everyone to give back the kindness that Richard has shown to those in his community and throughout Houston over the years, by donating whatever is in your heart as he faces his greatest hour of need.
