I had just two rabbits both fixed and happy, at work I was talking about them and someone told me of their rabbits. As a rabbit owner I was intrigued to find out more. They had two 6yo female rabbits living outside, they told me I could have them so I went and picked them up. First thing I noticed was they were in hutches separated with no hay and no space, they had long nails so overgrown that their toes were bent sideways. I got them home and inside with a proper set up as well as trimmed their nails. I was able to get them to a vet and start their vaccines with a follow up in three weeks for boosters. The vet said that they need to be spayed due to an 80% chance of uterine cancer and that spaying the rabbits would help litter train them and bond them so they can live together as well as maybe live with my original two rabbits. Rabbits are social animals and need friends, otherwise they can be sad and I want to give these girls a happy life. I tried to bond them but they have so many hormones that they just wanted to fight and only getting them spayed will help. The vet also said that they need dental work done since their teeth continuously grow their whole lives and they had no hay, they have spurs on their overgrown teeth causing discomfort. I asked for a quote and went on my way. Well, many phone calls and quotes later I am looking at $900 in vet quotes that I need to pay to give these rabbits a happy life. Since they are older rabbits they require blood work to be done to test liver and kidney function before they will do the spays which is almost half of the cost. I want to provide for these rabbits the best that I can, but I am unable to afford these bills on my own. If you could help, even a little can go a long way, and if not I ask that you share to help spread this and help me to give these rabbits the friends and dental care they need.
