In the early morning of April 4, Ethan was riding home in a ride share and was hit by a drunk driver. Ethan sustained massive head trauma from the accident. He is receiving the best care from an ICU in Austin.

Because of the outpouring of requests by so many people to help the family in this time of need, we have set up a fundraising page to help meet the various needs of the family.

Please help in any way you can, even if it is to say a prayer and to keep the family in your heart.

Ethan Woodfield Eiler of Austin, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the young age of 22. With much love and sadness, we mourn the loss of our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

Ethan is survived by his loving parents, Kellie and Nigel Leifeste, Jeff Eiler and Lori Jones; his siblings Morgan, Sam, and Evelyn; his maternal grandparents Bill and Sue Groff and paternal grandmother Kathy Eiler; his aunt and uncles Katie and Brent Pfeiffer, Scott Griffin, Keith Eiler; cousins Molly, Addie, and Ellie; his band of brothers: Kilbourne, Marcus, Eben, Chris, Winston, Nolan, Davin, Gabe, Jacob, Henry and a host of other friends and co-workers.

Ethan loved fiercely, was deeply loyal and accepting of all people. His friends and family are the lucky ones to have known him as he made us all better human beings. In Ethan’s honor, we ask you to enjoy nature, read a book, cultivate meaningful and loyal friendships, seek ways to make a difference, leave somewhere better than you found it and live to make a deeper impact each day.

Our family would like to recognize all of the compassionate angels put on this Earth who not only provided excellent care for Ethan, but for our family and dear friends, at UT Dell Seton and Christopher’s House. We are truly appreciative and thankful for every single unsung hero that crossed our path during this time.

A Celebration of Life for family, friends, and loved ones to share countless stories and Ethan’s eternal acts of kindness and love will be held to honor his memory at a later date that will be shared by his family.

Memorial donations may be made in Ethan’s name to BookSpring, 2006 Greenbrook Pkwy, Austin, TX 78723 or http://weblink.donorperfect.com/BookSpringTribute

We come to you with heavy hearts to share that Ethan is now receiving comfort care and is transitioned to hospice yesterday. His medical team has done everything they can for him. In the next few days, family and close friends will have time to visit and say their goodbyes. Please continue to pray for all of his family and Ethan - that he will have peace and comfort in his final days. God be near to the broken-hearted.

Continued prayers requested for Ethan as he undergoes a procedure this afternoon that is risky, but very necessary. May the Lord be close and provide peace only He can provide.

We come to you again to ask for prayers for Ethan. On Monday, he was rushed to the ER for a suspected brain bleed and swelling. Many tests and scans have been completed, as they continue to monitor his vitals, blood counts and neuro response. At this time they have concluded that Ethan has a severe infection that hopefully they will be able to tailor antibiotics to over the next few days. Pray for healing, rest and comfort for Ethan. Pray for his medical team as they make decisions over his medical care. Please continue to pray for his parents, siblings and extended family members. They are weary and need strength only the Lord can provide. God hear our prayers.

Ethan’s family and friends would like to thank you for the continued support. They are overwhelmed by your generosity through financial giving, meals, prayers and messages of care and concern. The road of recovery for a person with severe head trauma is typically long, with many ups and downs. Both Ethan and his family continue to need your prayers and words of encouragement during this time.

Many of you have asked about Ethan’s condition and how he is doing. This is not an easy question to answer, as things can change quickly and positive progress that is celebrated one minute can easily be overshadowed by hard news the next. Currently, Ethan continued to be in a minimal state of consciousness. He will remain in the hospital until there are no more medical interventions needed. The next step in his recovery will include a stay at a long term acute care facility. It is our hope and prayer that Ethan will regain full consciousness and be able to start actively participating in his healing.

Specific prayer requests:

  • Complete healing for Ethan
  • Stamina for Ethan’s family during the long journey of healing
  • Wisdom and direction for Ethan’s medical and rehabilitation teams
