After a setback at my local hospital, I am traveling a new path toward healing — and I am not giving up.
My name is Kristy, and I am living with heart failure. Recently, I received devastating news: my current hospital denied my heart transplant. To keep fighting, I will need to relocate out of state, away from my family and closest friends, to pursue the care I need.
At the end of August, I will be meeting a new cardiologist in Tennessee. This appointment is the first step on a new path — one I hope will lead to the transplant that will give me a second chance at life.
Leaving the people I love most is one of the hardest parts of this journey. But I believe this step is necessary, and I am holding onto hope that this new team will see the way forward.
THE ROAD AHEAD
New State, New Hope
Starting over in a new state means new doctors, new routines, and new challenges. It also means finding a new place to live, figuring out travel, and navigating insurance and medical records all over again.
But more than anything, it means hope. I am hopeful that this new care team will understand my case, advocate for me, and help me finally get approved for the heart transplant I need to live fully again.
