CUT OFF is a fast-paced, light-hearted rom-com…in the unlikeliest of places. We are fundraising to make this project come to life, but we need your help!

THE STORY

CUT OFF Logline: On a mission to win her overbearing mother’s approval, a free-wheeling young woman searches for a date in the unlikeliest of places—her nephew's bris.

WHY THIS? WHY NOW?

It’s not lost on us that a romantic comedy at a bris just doesn’t make sense. But that’s exactly why it’s happening. With its religious significance, a bris is actually the perfect backdrop to explore the pressures often created by cultural attitudes and norms. And, it’s so weird it’s hilarious.

While this story was born out of our experiences, and is centered around Jewish customs, we’re exploring universal themes that we hope resonate with a much wider audience. We think most people can relate to the plight of our protagonist in some way or another. The world could use more laughter and levity, so we hope Sof’s journey makes you smile, laugh, or even just nod in agreement.

ABOUT THE CREATORS

We're Sofie Rimler and Remi Rosmarin— two 20-something Jewish female filmmakers from the East Coast who love to make people laugh. We are passionate about using art to entertain, bring people together and tell a universal story. We met at Jewish sleep away camp 17 years ago, so our comedy, CUT OFF, felt like a natural first project to collaborate on.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Mary Lou Belli (Executive Producer) - Two time EMMY award-winning Mary Lou Belli has been directing television for over 30 years including NCIS New Orleans, True Lies, Black Lightning, Bull, Legacies, Station 19, Sweet Magnolias, Pitch, Monk, Famous In Love, Devious Maids, The Quad, American Woman, and Hart of Dixie as well as Disney’s The Secret of Sulphur Springs, Ms. Pat, Wizards of Waverly Place, Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, and The Game.

Meg Swertlow (Director) - Meg Swertlow is an award-winning, Los Angeles-born screenwriter and director who focuses on telling female-driven stories. She has directed eight short films, most recently “The Voiceless” for the feature anthology Give Me an A about the overturning of Roe v Wade. The proof of concept for her horror feature, No Overnight Parking, starring Alyssa Milano and French Stewart, was featured on Shudder and is currently in its festival run, most recently playing the 2023 Austin Film Festival. The project was also selected for K. Period Media/Blumhouse’s Inaugural “Screamwriting” Lab in March 2023. Meg’s short films have screened at some of the world’s top genre fests, including Fantastic Fest, Brooklyn Horror Fest, Scream Fest, FrightFest UK, Nightmares Film Festival, Etheria Film Night and FilmQuest. She was selected for the Ryan Murphy Half Initiative Director Shadowing Program and shadowed on 911: Lone Star in November 2022 – at nine months pregnant.

Jake Bradbury (Executive Producer) - Jake Bradbury has directed and produced more than 50 short films, 10 of which have won film festival awards. He has written 3 feature length screenplays and been reviewed in Indie Wire, Filmmaker Magazine and NoFilmmaker. Winner: Filmquest Best Director 2021 (Short), Los Angeles Film Festival, Vegas Movie Awards.
