Friends, please take a moment of your day to read this... you won't be sorry you did.
A dear friend of mine has a beautiful little daughter, named Kairi. Against all medical odds, Kairi has made it to 14 years old, and as you can see from her picture, she is full of joy and positivity. She is known to light up whatever room she's in and to cheer up others, though they mistakenly thought they were coming to cheer her up!
Kairi suffered a HUGE injustice at only 3 years old. She was violently assaulted by a woman who was watching her. Kairi was lifted off the floor and her head was slammed, violently, into the sharp corner of a wall. Her little skull was crushed and pushed into her brain.
Instead of rushing her to the hospital after committing such a vicious act, the woman who did this, waited an additional 45 minutes before calling an ambulance or rushing little Kairi to the hospital. Perhaps using that time to get a story together, that would keep her from being arrested.
Kairi's life and the lives of her family members, changed significantly that day. Kairi was rushed from Hawaii, where she lived, to Rady's Children's hospital in San Diego. She was in a coma for a very long time, and was not expected to live.
Thankfully, she did live! But, as to be expected, her condition is very delicate. She is in a wheelchair permanently, as well as suffering with many other complications including surgeries, and a severely compromised immune system.
She has spent most of her life in a hospital bed, or isolated in clean rooms, which is a condition no child should have to endure. Despite it all, she has defied doctors' predictions that she would die very young. Her life expectancy is quite limited, yet Kairi is a fighter!
The criminal who assaulted her was not immediately prosecuted. She told doctors Kairi had been jumping on the couch and landed head first on the coffee table. This false claim was aggressively disputed by the family for YEARS, because Kairi's older sister was eye-witness to the crime, as well as medical evidence proving that the story being told was false.
As we all know, the justice system can be quite broken. But believe it or not, after years of fighting for a trial and conviction, the case FINALLY made it to court and the judge agreed to prosecute!
Kairi cannot make the trip from California back to Hawaii, where the trial is being held. But her sister Janelle, who witnessed the crime, and her mother, step-father and 2 siblings, will be there to stand strong in Kairi's defense, and speak at the sentencing. They need to have everything purchased and paid by Nov 1, 2025.
It is a costly trip. Please would you help me in giving generously to support their family in being able to purchase plane tickets, food, hotel and transportation, so as to attend this important court event?
Kairi loves horses and giraffes. Though she can't go on this trip with her family due to her fragile state, we would like to spend $100 of the funds raised to buy her a large stuffed horse or giraffe. With that gift, we will happily tell her that her family's expenses in going to fight for justice for her, were covered by people like you, who cared.
Thank you with all my heart.
