A Bridge for the Brewer Family: Fighting High-Grade Uterine Cancer
The Life We Were Building
Just a few weeks ago, our biggest "stressors" were school drop-offs and making sure our 1st grader and Pre-K student had their lunches packed. We were in the middle of a beautiful transition: I was looking for full-time work as my youngest prepared for school, and we were counting down the days to a long-awaited Disney Cruise. We were a family in motion, planning for the future.
The Abrupt Halt
That motion stopped in an ER waiting room. Following an emergency visit and a subsequent biopsy, I was diagnosed with Clear Cell Endometrial Carcinomaâa high-grade, aggressive uterine cancer. We are also navigating the possibility of Lynch Syndrome, which adds layers of complexity to my treatment and our familyâs future.
Overnight, my job shifted from "Mom in Chief" to "Cancer Warrior." My days are now a blur of oncologists, scans, and the physical toll of preparing for the fight of my life.
The Financial "Middle Ground"
We find ourselves in a position many families fear. On paper, we work hard and earn too much for state assistance. But the reality of losing my income, combined with the temporary nature of disability checks that don't cover our bills, has left us in a freefall.
As I pivot to a strict anti-inflammatory diet to give my body every fighting chance, our grocery bills are climbing alongside our medical debt. We are now facing the impossible choice of having my husband work as many hours as he can get to keep us afloat or having him home when we need him to help care for me and the children during this crisis.
Protecting the Kids
My 1st grade daughter and Pre-K son are going to see a lot of the medical side of this journey in the coming months. My goal is to ensure they don't have to feel the financial side of it, too.
We are asking for your help to act as a bridge for our family. Your support will go directly toward:
⢠Back-to-School Essentials: Ensuring the kids have the clothes and supplies they need to feel confident and "normal" as they head back to class.
⢠Nutritional Support: Helping us cover the high cost of the specialized, anti-inflammatory groceries required for my recovery.
⢠Household Stability: Bridging the gap left by my lost income so we can focus on healing rather than how to pay the next bill.
How You Can Help
We know times are tough for everyone. If you are unable to donate, please share our story. A share is a powerful gift that helps us reach people we might not know.
I am fighting to live as many years as I can possibly get with my babies. Thank you for being part of the community that helps me get there.
A Massive Victory & The Road to Full Healing
I am writing this today with tears of pure relief in my eyes. I just had my follow-up with my oncology team, and we received the best news we could have hoped for: they believe they removed all of the early-stage, high-grade endometrial cancer during my surgery!
While we are celebrating that win, the reality is that the chance of recurrence is still very real and very possible due to the high-grade nature of my cancer. I am officially on a monitoring plan, which is the best outcome, but I still have a few more months of intense recovery before Iâm physically cleared to return to work.
I want to be completely open about where we are. I had already started the "fun" part of our family planning: I was gathering cruise essentials, tucking away little items in our luggage, and obsessively making packing lists. I was so excited to give our kids the experience of their first-ever cruise to celebrate our wedding anniversary, my birthday, and my late mother-in-lawâs birthday. Even though the trip was months away, that planning was my happy place.
When my diagnosis came in, everything changed. We had to cancel the trip, and while we were able to get our money back, it was returned in the form of non-refundable Disney gift cards. While weâre grateful we still have a future Disney adventure to look forward to eventually, it won't be the celebration we had planned, and it has left us in a really tight spot. Those funds are now locked away, and they canât be used for our everyday bills or the specialized dietary needs that don't have a pause button while I navigate being a one-income household.
We are currently in the process of applying for aid, but the reality is that our bills and my healing needs donât have a pause button.
Why we are keeping this page active:
Your generosity so far has been our lifelineâit has kept our household stable and ensured our 7-year-old and 5-year-old are shielded from this stress. Keeping this fund open for the final stretch of my recovery means I don't have to rush back to work before my body is truly ready, which is crucial for my long-term health.
How you can stand with us:
Share our update: Sharing this good news shows people that this is a winning battle and helps us reach new friends who might be able to help.
Donate if you are able: Every single dollar goes directly toward our familyâs needsâgroceries, bills, and the clean ingredients I need to fuel my healingâwhile Iâm out of work.
To everyone who has donated, messaged, cooked, or prayedâyou quite literally saved us during the scariest month of our lives. Thank you for getting me to the other side. Now, thank you for helping us get back on our feet.
