Late October this year my year and a half old Golden Retriever, who is my diabetic service dog, started limping with a lame leg. After initially believing this was just a torn cruxiate ligament, after additional X-rays and a consult with a surgeon, he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his leg.

Given his age we are going to be proceeding with amputation of the affected leg and treatments to help him live out as much of his life as he can.

The medical costs are substantial and I find myself needing help.

Anything is appreciated. Money earned will go towards helping with his medical bills and aftercare.

For those that have helped, thank you, the costs have significantly been defrayed.

This is the best news result.
While the infection did cause enough osteomyelitis to need the leg removed, the biopsy came back negative for cancers.

In the end, it was a cryptococcus fungal infection. which we believe can be mitigated with a few months of antifungal meds, now that the leg has been removed where it was concentrating.

There's still a risk, but I wanted to take this moment to thank everyone who helped us get through it to this point.

Atreus has his amputation today. He's doing ok with it so far but pretty zonked out. We will have biopsy results in about 16 days. His stitches come out in 14 days. He starts rehab after the stitches come out. His leg bone wasn't in good shape according to the vet that looked at it during the operation.

Amputation ran around 3300.

Rehab will be about 150 a visit for about 2 months.

After the biopsy we will know what we are dealing with and decide on the next treatment steps.
