When Alverta Grace Purvis departed this world on that fateful day, December 22, 2022, my world shattered into a thousand pieces. The suddenness of her passing, brought on by a mysterious and devastating medical condition that ravaged her entire being, left me in a state of shock that words fail to describe adequately. Little did I know that her departure would not only leave an immense void in my heart but also plunge me into an unanticipated struggle.
Prior to her passing, I had made the difficult decision to quit my full-time job to become her primary caregiver. It was a choice fueled by love and devotion, a commitment to stand by her side in the face of adversity. However, the consequences of that decision unfolded before me, and I found myself ill-prepared for the financial hardships that lay ahead. The funds generously given by many of you, for which I am eternally grateful, were dedicated entirely to the health and well-being of her beloved companion and best friend, Buddy.
Since then, I have fought tooth and nail to regain financial stability, to create even the slightest breathing room in my life. But the path has been arduous, weighed down by the burden of debt that I carried from the very beginning. And now, as if the weight upon my shoulders wasn't heavy enough, I have been confronted with my own lingering medical issues—ones I had ignored throughout the past year while tending to Alverta's needs.
Recently, I had no choice but to take a week off from work due to a skull tumor nestled within my middle ear. Today, I underwent a procedure called stereotactic radiosurgery—a glimmer of hope that this ordeal will finally come to an end. With this procedure, I pray that the ongoing symptoms, which have haunted me relentlessly, will soon fade away, and I can embrace a life unburdened by constant pain and uncertainty.
Yet, in the midst of this battle, I find myself humbled by the realization that I cannot face these challenges alone. It is not easy for me to reach out and ask for aid, to admit vulnerability in the face of adversity. But I must set aside pride and acknowledge that my home—the sanctuary where Buddy, Angel, and I find solace—is at risk of being lost.
This is why I turn to you, dear friends, with a humble request for your assistance. Any financial contribution, no matter how small, has the power to make a world of difference and help me secure a future for myself and my loyal companions. I understand that we live in a time where many face their own financial hardships, and I hold no expectations from those who are unable to give. Your understanding and support mean the world to me, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for taking the time to read my plea.
In this moment of vulnerability and need, I find solace in the belief that compassion and empathy can work wonders. Together, we can weather this storm, ensuring that Buddy, Angel, and I continue to have a place we can call home—a place where love and memories thrive.
Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for your kindness and consideration.
