NIACC’s food pantry provides a lifeline to students whose resources are stretched to the limit. The pantry offers a variety of nutritious options that are quick and easy to prepare, from grab-and-go snacks to meals of chili or spaghetti.
It’s difficult to focus in class when also worrying about the financial responsibilities of tuition, rent and transportation. For students also struggling with food insecurity, the results can be disastrous. Hunger makes it hard to concentrate and the stress of insufficient resources can push students to leave school in search of immediate income. Access to a campus food pantry can make the difference in whether a student stays or leaves NIACC.
The pantry is open five days a week and is run by RSVP volunteers. We partner with the Food Bank of Iowa and Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank to serve our students.
