The Mojuba Collective is a space born of the legacy of Rosslyn "Cookie" Rowe-Haynes. In the early 1990s Mrs. Cookie purchased a building in Silver Spring, MD. For 25 years, thousands of people walked through the doors of Salon 8227 (formerly Alanni Hair Designs). Mrs. Cookie would greet each of those people, many changed by her hands, her words of encouragement, or her willingness to give. In 2017 Mrs. Cookie transitioned after a long battle with breast cancer leaving the building to her youngest sister and her only child.

The Mojuba Collective (Mojuba) is a space that continues the legacy of community building that Black Salons like Salon 8227 have created over the years. Mojuba is a multi-use space dedicated to the artistic and the holistic. It is home to jam sessions, pop-ups, meet-and-greets, Holistic Happy Hours, and fellowship.

By supporting The Mojuba Collective, you would be helping to continue a legacy of a safe and affordable space for Black organizers, artists, healers, and creative minds.

I know so many people are struggling under present conditions, I have put off asking for support for a long time, but I would like to continue to curate spaces where joy and healing are at the center while surviving the weight of these capitalist conditions.

Your support would directly contribute to the repairs of the physical space, added infrastructure, and logistical support to continue offering events, workshops, open mics, and makers markets.

Primary repairs and added infrastructure include, but are not limited to:

  • Rooftop repairs
  • New HVAC system
  • Updated plumbing system
  • Added egress for second-story usage
  • Ceiling and Electrical re-wiring

Secondary infrastructure support

  • Metaphysical and wellness marketplace
  • Building a commercial community kitchen
  • Artist-in-Residence Programming
  • Sound System to accommodate performance space for creatives
  • Hiring Additional Staff
  • Access to a Book Keeping Collective
