Last Monday, I found myself nervously holding an eviction notice, a piece of paper that suddenly felt like a mountain I had to climb. As a single mom with three wonderful daughters, I'm used to challenges, but this feels different. The thought of losing our small home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi has been weighing heavily on me, especially since my youngest daughter has special needs. Moments like these remind me how much warmth and love we share, even in tough times.
Without a car, getting around is a daily struggle. It’s a challenge to juggle work commitments and the girls' activities. I often rely on the kindness of neighbors when public transportation isn't enough. My daughters are only eight, ten, and my youngest, at five, needs constant care. Despite these hurdles, they bring so much joy and laughter into our lives, always ready with a hug or a smile.
Not having family to lean on makes things harder, but it also makes me unbelievably grateful for the little community we've built around us. The kindness of friends and people in our neighborhood has been a lifeline. These moments teach my girls compassion and the importance of empathy—it’s the silver lining in an otherwise daunting situation. Together, we're hopeful that with a little help, we can find a way to keep our home and our sense of security intact.
