“A bureaucracy free way of getting immediate aid to the the victims of the Maui wildfires with a long term goal of creating a movement to fight for the health and well being of Maui’s community, keiki, and way of life.”

      - Blue Tape Maui (BTM)

The story ----------- It all started with just a few hours volunteering at local commercial kitchen, helping to prepare hot food for our local police and fire department. It quickly spiraled out of control (in a good way). We are now looking into the possibility of starting a nonprofit, as recovery from these horrendous fires is going to be a very long road.

The idea was created from a need. Several needs actually.

Number one: Maui needed help and needed help quickly.

Number two: Getting that help directly to the people needed to be fast without the usual government bureaucracy getting in the way, which is a monumental task in and of itself.

Number three: Us locals are consistently asked for advice with finding a trusted organization where they can donate money, as this may be the only resource they are able to give and they want so badly to help.

We decided to become the conduit that could bridge these gaps and create solutions. Everyone keeps inquiring about the same thing. Where can they send their donations to someone trusted. An organization they know will funnel their donations quickly and directly to the relief effort from the Maui wildfires.

We are going to attempt to be that someone. Whether it becomes a long-term nonprofit organization, or just a big push for everything we can do in the short term with the funding that is immediately available to us.

Please check out our Facebook page below to see brief overviews of the things we've been involved in so far.

Please feel free to share our page and help us spread the word, knowing that with your  support, it will go directly to the relief efforts in a way that is absolutely relevant to what is needed, when it is needed. It will not get tied up in bureaucracy and will not end up in some business or organizations pocket.

The love and outpouring of support on this island and from the world watching has been absolutely amazing and beautiful. There is so much work to be done. Families will rebuild, communities will rebuild… Maui will rebuild. In the wake of great loss comes the perspective of what’s truly important and a genuine appreciation for what you still have.

Overview of Our Organization: Blue Tape Maui is an organization that was founded in response to the Maui wildfires. Our organization is run by volunteers who are passionate about helping those in need. We want to provide direct assistance to those affected by the 2023 Maui wildfires and any possible hardships of Maui, Hawaii thereof. Our mission is to help people recover from the disaster by providing basic needs such as food, water, clothing, shelter, and funding; with a long term goal of placing special emphasis on helping Maui’s keiki and education of our keiki who have now been displaced in our now overwhelmed education system. We also plan on supporting small business in a compassionate way during our delicate reopening of Maui, as this is what is needed to lay the foundation to help rebuild and facilitate economic recovery.

Needs Assessment: The 2023 Maui wildfires have left many people without shelter, food, water, clothing, personal hygiene needs, access to transportation, etc. Our organization aims to assess these needs hands on. We will individually asses needs as they present themselves through social media, word of mouth, and keeping multiple open phone lines. We are also on site at many of these camps and donation centers daily.  We will be in direct contact with families and volunteers to distribute a broad spectrum of solutions.

Services Provided: Blue Tape Maui is aware that the services for those in need is an ever changing progression. We will provide funding towards a broad spectrum of needs through interpersonal evaluations. Including but never limited to; home items, temporary housing, food, water, school supplies, transportation of goods, toiletries, and any personal requests that will be continually assessed as a basic human need with the flow of our community’s ever changing situation.

We have been very excited about the progress we have been able to continually support. With our boots on the ground we have not been able to give everyone an update for a few days. It has all been good news!

8/30
We began to unload the 2 45ft containers full of donations. This was great! It was full of non perishables, diapers, wipes, toiletries, cleaning supplies,  weather gear, etc. Kai Kanani Sailing was a major help to us this day with trucks and hands to make this possible! Thank you so much!

8/31
The third 16ft moving pod was delivered to the storage area this day. We were able to move 3 45ft containers donated through Pasha Hawaii to the property that is building tiny homes! Kula Onions came to support us with trucks and hands to unload the remainder of the containers. We made an immediate trip to Napili Park with these supplies. Supplies continue to go very quickly, so we will need to make deliveries often through out the week.

9/1
We made a supply run to Napili on this day. Paper towels, blankets, and clean towels were needed. We were also able to deliver more non perishables and help to disperse a large load of donated watermelons to other locations.

9/2
On this day we were able to secure the delivery of 3 moving pods for Napili Park. They will be delivered on 9/5 to help with building materials and over flow for the Napili community and school.

Today 08/27/23:
Amazing news today! We were able to confirm the heavy duty forklift that is able to move the 40-45ft containers from the truck chassis to their final location! It has been donated to us, with a certified operator, from Discovery Builders!  The only thing pending now is the truck able to transport this forklift. This will be the final piece towards getting Pasha’s 30+ containers moving.
We will be doing another “personal shopping” trip starting on Wednesday.

Saturday 08/26/23:

Today was another delivery day to Napili. Along with a medium sized fridge, we brought foldable wagons, water coolers, fresh produce and frozen chicken. The biggest part of the day though was confirming coordination for receiving 2  45 foot containers full of donations coming this week. This is only the first two of many on their way, (these next containers are empty containers) which will arrive staggered over the next few weeks. These containers are being donated by Pasha Hawaii for permanent use to both Napili park, for the school they are building, along with a property in Oluwalu for converting into homes. We have delivery set up through T Sniffen & Sons.

Friday 08/25/23:

Friday was an incredible day! We have learned one of the most helpful things to do is reach out directly and get a very specific list of needs for the day. Basically a personal shopper list. These “personal shopper” list days will be something we do often. These really are a great way to use our donated funds and turn them into immediate and direct help. We were able to reach out in the morning and by 2pm we were on-site at the Napili Park hub delivering everything on the list!

The list was:

-Brand new underwear and socks for all genders ages and sizes.

-Weather proof storage clipboards

-10 thermometers to bring their refrigeration up to code

-20 S hooks for hanging storage

-Hydration drink packets

-Camping gear including tents, bbq, chairs, cots, air mattresses and more

-24 Large sheet pans for meat storage

-20 half sheet pans

-hair ties

-nail clippers

-30 shampoo and conditioner packs

We also brought the brand new generator that was donated to us along with a box full of pre made snack bags!

Our side mission for the day was to bring over 60 pounds of fresh meat to Merriman's Maui, in Kapalua. They have been making free meals every day and even offer delivery for those who can’t get to their location.

Here is a major update of what we have been up to this passed week or so:

08/17/2023:

We are unloading two 40 foot containers. Young brothers has waived the boat fee, Pasha has donated the containers, and Sniffen Trucking donated delivery to our location in Lahaina.

Our Difficulties today: Our forklift brakes gave out. We have rented a 24 hr one at the moment and are looking for more help in this area.

There is a lot of clothes in our first container. While we are thankful for clothes, we have too many. We are in need of non perishables and gear. Luckily the second container is packed to the gills with everything needed, from food, to medical supplies, sanitary needs and more! Currently we need: fresh fruits, veg, and meat, rice, cooking oils, tp, dish soap, bleach, butane, propane, ice chests, headlamps, tarps, tents, stakes, men and women’s underwear. We have been busy!

08/18/2023:

We are bringing fuel, propane, and water to Lahaina this morning. We are going to assess the current needs of the communities after the unloading of our containers yesterday. We will then be shopping directly for their lists and redelivering to Lahaina immediately after, thanks to donations through our spotfund!

Our current needs: Fresh fruits, fresh veg, and meat. Canned and non perishables foods. Some basic medical supplies (bandaids, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc.) Water, toilet paper, dish soap, bleach, butane, propane, ice chests, headlamps, batteries, tarps, tents, stakes, men and women’s underwear.

We are still looking for access to a forklift or funding for a forklift rental. We are expecting 30 more 40 foot containers from Oahu. 3 of which will be delivered this week.

 08/19/2023:

We were able to deliver 40 lbs of fresh meat to Napili camp. We were also given a list from Napili camp. With our donations we were able to go shopping directly for this list.

Generally when a community suggests donations, it is handed down a line asking for help. These needs are then met in mass amount days later. They are then presented with too much of said product. We are creating a direct line so we are able to get a list in the morning, shop during the day, and get it delivered. Today was our first day we were able to do this!

What we got on the list: Cooking oil, flour, antibacterial, anti fungal, paper towels, toilet paper, salt, chili powder, deodorant, bayer, Tylenol, ibuprofen, 20 can openers.

What we are still in need of: Lice treatment, baby shampoo, sunscreen is very needed, hair brushes, more cooking oil, batteries, headlamps, inclement weather supplies(tent, tarp, stakes) always fresh vegetable, fruits, and meat.

A large misunderstanding during this crisis:

The larger organizations in the media addressing the displaced is VERY largely over played. The west side of Maui is CLOSED. They are not receiving help from known “non-profits”. I do not know how to word this correctly without getting involved with politics. This being said, this is why we are hands on. Very few local organizations have come together to support our community, and we are very thankful for the LARGE amount of work they are doing.

We spoke with several potential donors. We managed to secure some dry food pallets. They will be sent to us on Friday. We are pending on the amount and delivery time. These will be available for us to pick up as soon as they land. The pallets, delivery, and forklift have all been donated.

Friends have secured three moving pods. We are currently organizing the time for this pick up.

Our daily delivery to Lahaina was successful again. Everyone together was able to supply 100 gal of fuel, Vegetables, cooking oil, clothing, diapers, can openers, flashlights, batteries, laundry detergent, and a few boxes of mixed can goods

08/20/2023:

We were part of a major effort put together by many amazing people. An NBC video crew was along for the entire day's activities. Supplies were received by boat and jet ski. Several vehicles were loaded but there was difficulty delivering to the camps as many were closed on Sunday. There was still a successful delivery to several locations. The supplies included fresh meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, school supplies, cleaning supplies, canned goods, personal care and sanitary items, fuel, and water. Due to possible looting, only what could fit into locked storage could be delivered. Leftover supplies were held over night to re-deliver today. These daily developments are part of the ever changing needs.

There was a quick meeting with some of the volunteers at a camp in Napili. A quick tour of a “container school” they are building for the community revealed the amazing work they are doing there!

On a side mission, a fridge was donated and delivered to a home housing a displaced family that lost their refrigerator due to a power surge when power was returned to sections of Napili.

Re-delivery of the remaining supplies this morning was successful. 3 moving pods have been secured to keep at the main hub with a truck BTM was able to provide delivery for. These pods will now be used for extra storage between deliveries. This should remove the need for locked storage at the few remaining hubs within the Lahaina area.

Confirmation is pending on two 40ft containers that may be donated towards building the new Napili school. We will have updates for this tomorrow.

What is still needed: School supplies, cleaning supplies, headlamps, batteries, paper towels, consistent supply of fresh meat, fruit, and Vegetables, water, gas, possible waste system (Porta-potty), toilet paper, 40ft containers, gas, propane, and butane.

If you would like to donate knowing your donation will go straight toward relief and direct help to the people and family affected by the wildfires please click on the link below.

08/22/2023:

We delivered 60 lbs of fresh meat to a local restaurant making community meals. We love supporting local business in this way because not only does this give back to the community directly, but it also allows the employees of the restaurant to continue working. Helping the immediate needs of people directly affected by the fires is extremely important right now. A major problem that we are beginning to tackle is figuring out how to help keep small businesses afloat. What is becoming more and more important is bringing some kind of normalcy back to Maui as soon as possible.

Another awesome update for today, several computers were delivered to Napili Park to become a small piece in the foundation of a community ran school.

Some volunteers at Napili Park shared plans of getting “glamping” kits together for displaced families. After speaking to them we were able to  acquire a donated (brand new) generator, stove, and cots to go towards these kits. We will be working on getting many more items to fill these needs.

08/23/2023:

We had the 16 ft Pods delivered to two locations. These were donated from Pasha. This will help majorly with the storage and sorting of donations. Byron Apo with Bestowed Towing gave a huge discount on delivery of these pods! Thank you Byron Apo! Two were delivered to the main hub here in Kihei, One was delivered to Napili to help with their storage capabilities. We are currently working on obtaining more pods.

12 more 40ft containers have been secured for the container school!

What we still need:

-People living near the disaster area need air purifiers.

-generators

-camping gear

- individual item requests by camp

- KULA NEEDS WATER
