To My Dear Friends and Friends of Friends,
I am coming to you today with a heartfelt plea for support on behalf of my little sister Lindsey. She recently heard the forever life changing word - CANCER. Lindsey is facing an overwhelming battle against non-operable cervical cancer. Lindsey is a single mother to her precious son, Lucas - the light of her life. Despite her circumstances, her sole focus is to provide the best possible life for Lucas.
Lindsey's journey has already been marked by countless challenges. Without reliable transportation, she depends on the kindness of friends and neighbors to accompany her to vital medical appointments and even to pick up her prescriptions from the pharmacy. Furthermore, living on a limited fixed income leaves her in an impossible predicament - having to choose between buying essential medication or providing nourishing meals for herself and Lucas.
I cannot comprehend the extent of her fear and loneliness. No one deserves to face this alone. The 3 hour long drive that separates us makes helping her with transportation or childcare impossible. I am also unable to provide the financial help she desperately needs. My greatest hope is that together we can raise enough money to somewhat alleviate the massive hardships she is currently facing.
To be completely honest, my sister and I have experienced a turbulent relationship over the past 15 years. We have hardly spoken until a few weeks ago. But given the current dire circumstances, those disagreements now seem trivial. I cannot sit by and do nothing while I watch my baby sister make desperate Facebook pleas for things like a shower chair, cane or compression socks.
On a positive note, she has been paired with a social worker who is helping Lindsey navigate through the complicated medical system. She will also be treated at UAB which is one of the best medical schools/hospitals we could ask for.
With your help, we can offer Lindsey dependable transportation choices. This will provide her with the reassurance of being able to afford an Uber ride to the drugstore, should there be no alternative available. It would also ensure that both food and medicine, as well as keeping her utilities and rent current are a possibility for her and Lucas during this challenging period.
Will you help me? If so, please visit our Spotfund link below. Your donation, regardless of the amount, will make a difference.
This deeply isolating and anxiety-ridden experience is bound to wreak further havoc on Lindsey's health. She currently bracing herself for the coming weeks as her aggressive radiation/chemotherapy treatment begins.
I will continue to update everyone on her prognosis and her progress. Last week she had a great deal of tests and surgery to assess where and how much this cancer may have already spread.
Please, please - share this with everyone you know. She needs so much to know that people who may not even know her feel compassion for her and are praying for her. I also want to thank those of you who have helped her over the years. Your kindness has not been forgotten.
Love, Tanya (Lindsey's Big Sis)
