This is Shane Claxton, she is an EMT. Just graduated college recently. She is married. Her husband is a police officer. She has 4 children but she also has custody of her granddaughter. On Aug 18th Melissa had developed a rash and her eyes were matted shut when she woke up and also had a fever. She went to urgent care and they told her she just had allergies. The next day it was much worse so she went to Murray Hospital. Melissa had recently started a new medicine and she was told the side effects and one of them was Steven Johnson syndrome (SJS) but it was so rare that the Dr had only seen it once. She was already worried thatās what it was. She informed the Doctor of her fear and he agreed she needed farther evaluation. She was then transferred to a ICU burn unit in Atlanta. Things have gotten worse daily. The doctors told us we should look at it like sheās burning from the inside out. She had her first surgery Wednesday in which they put donated human skin over her skin that is damaged. As of today the medical condition is progressing still, which is NOT a good thing in this case. She will go back into surgery on Monday to redress her bandages and they will start putting the donated skin on her legs.
We are asking for help from the community as the hospital bills are piling in. We would like to help relieve some of the burden on Shanee, her husband and children right now as the uncertainty of what is to come, still remains and changes so quickly.
