Organized by Bond Eye Australia in support of the NSW Rural Fire Service, WIRES Animal Rescue, and the Australian Red Cross. Support the affected wildlife and people and help fight the fires with one donation.
Australia is battling an unprecedented national crisis, as bushfires tear through rural communities across the nation.
Key Statistics
- At least 29 people have died
- Another 35 people have been confirmed missing after bushfires engulfed tourist hubs in Eastern Victoria on January 1st
- 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date. This includes thousands of koalas and other iconic species such as kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos and honeyeaters burnt alive, and many thousands more injured and homeless.
- 8,000 koalas — about one-third of the population in their primary habitat — are believed to have died since the fires began
- Over 3,000 buildings have been destroyed
- Over 46 million acres have burned
Entire towns have been flattened as fires snaked through bushland, across highways and up mountains. In New South Wales and Victoria, the most populous states in the country, people tried to outrun the blaze and highways were clogged with cars. In major cities, such as Sydney and Melbourne, a dense smoke has descended over busy metropolitan areas like a blanket. Some regions of the country recorded air quality measurements 20 times above the hazardous level.
The fires are still burning yet hope and support has not diminished. There has been an overwhelming showcase of support both nation and world wide. This catastrophe has touched many hearts and switched on many minds to rethink their own positioning on the current state of the world.
As many victims come home to start the rebuilding process, one thing that it is truly alive is the Australian spirit. Communities are coming together and supporting each another every day. Fire fighters and volunteers remain on the forefront, fighting these fires selflessly, in protecting the land and communities that are still under threat. There is nothing more Australian than the selfless and heroic efforts that have been displayed during this grim period. Although the help and donations have come in thick and fast, the process of regrowth and rebuilding these communities will take time and funding over months and years to come.
It's still not too late to make a contribution. Please donate and share! All funds will benefit the NSW Rural Fire Service, underfunded and largely made up of volunteers, WIRES Animal Rescue in New South Wales, Australia, as they help the hundreds of thousands of animals injured and displaced by the fires, and the Australian Red Cross as they work to support the people displaced by the fires. The funds raised by this campaign will be split between the three entities evenly.
