We met over 10 years ago working for the Ankeny Fire Department. We were stationed together on the same shift and the same crew. Through the years, we developed a strong friendship. It's that friendship that slowly grew into something more. Our relationship is rooted in a lot of time, trust and highs and lows. That foundation is what has helped build such a strong foundation in our marriage.
Shortly after we married, my husband was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. By God’s grace, he is now in remission, but the treatments affected his ability to father children naturally. Before chemotherapy began, we were able to preserve a sample for future family planning, and after his recovery we pursued IVF with great hope. Unfortunately, IVF was unsuccessful, and the process exhausted our savings, as insurance didn't cover the cost.
We have partnered with a nationwide adoption agency. While this agency is more expensive than some, most of the additional cost goes directly toward caring for and supporting the expectant mother. It was deeply important to us that she receives the resources, medical care, and emotional support she needs to have a positive and empowering birth experience. We believe she deserves nothing less. This agency also practices only open adoptions, which means our child will not only be loved unconditionally by us, but will also have the opportunity to know and be loved by their biological family as well.
When we’re not working (my husband as an Engineer with the fire department and myself as a Paramedic at a local hospital), you’ll often find us outdoors. Our life is full of simple joys, from working in the garden, doing farm chores and enjoying the peace of country life. Together, we love to cook new meals and share time in the kitchen. We're looking forward to little hands helping us stir cookie dough and taste-test new recipes.
When we think about the life we want to build, it’s not about the big things, but about the little things. We live on a peaceful acreage outside small town rural Iowa, surrounded by crops, quiet skies, and community. It’s the kind of place where kids grow up barefoot, curious and grounded. We can't wait to create new family traditions, from celebrating holidays to exploring the outdoors, but ultimately filling our home with laughter, faith and love.
The cost of our adoption journey is estimated at $77,000. Through savings and careful planning, we have already covered a portion, but we are still in need of $45,000 to reach our goal and bring our baby home. We are continuing to work towards this goal through working overtime shifts, picking up part-time jobs and organizing fundraisers. We're doing everything we can to make this dream a reality. And we know that not everyone is in a position to contribute financially, but if you are, please know that these funds will go directly toward agency fees, legal expenses, and most importantly ensuring that the birth mother is supported and cared for throughout her journey.
If you feel called to support us through giving, amazing. If you feel called to support us through sharing our story, amazing. If you feel called to support us through prayer, amazing.
