Our sweet baby boy Colten Lane Herrington was born weighing 7.9 pounds and 20 inches long. From the moment he entered the world, he has already proven to be such a strong little fighter.
Shortly after birth, doctors discovered that Colten had a heart murmur, fluid in his lungs, and his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck during delivery. Since then, he has been having difficulty taking a bottle and has been struggling with high glucose levels that doctors are still trying to understand.
Because of these complications, Colten was transferred to Batson Children’s Hospital at University of Mississippi Medical Center so he can receive specialized care and be closely monitored by a team of doctors. They are currently running tests and working to determine what is causing his glucose levels to stay high.
Colten is also fighting a small infection, and doctors have started antibiotics to help keep it under control while his body continues to grow stronger.
Watching your newborn fight through so much is something no parent is ever prepared for, but Colten continues to show us just how strong he is every single day. We know God has His hand on our little boy, and we are trusting Him through every step of this journey.
Any prayers, love, and support during this time mean more to our family than words can express. Colten is already proving he is a fighter, and we are so proud to be his parents.
