Ashley had emergency open heart surgery on 7 February due to an Aortic Aneurysm. At this time she is still intubated and they are looking into options to move her to a more capable facility as well as exploring further medical options for her heart.
Those that know the Bethkes know they are the most caring people. Please keep them in your thoughts while they navigate this journey.
20 Feb update:
Current status:
She is 1 IV medication away from leaving the Cardiovascular ICU.
She only has 3 IV meds.
She ate a banana, salad, soup, and crackers today.
No more catheter.
No more bandage on her chest.
No more swan in her neck.
Uses the bathroom with a little help.
She walked 5 or so steps yesterday and more than 25 today.
Her biggest near sighted issues right now are that she's so tired but her brain won't shut off the trauma she's been through to let her sleep and she's been very nauseous.
The road continues to wind for her healing, but we've celebrated some huge milestones the past couple days. Thank you all for everything you've done to help my family and I, thank you for encouraging Ashley, and thank you for just bring the awesome people that we're lucky enough to be surrounded by!
Love each other and let the small things go. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed.
16 Feb update
Small accomplishment she made today:
- She beat a fever of 102
- She got her heart leads and last 2 drainage tubes removed
- She got off some of her sedatives and got to really be present with us for a while
- She got to sit up in a chair for a couple hours
- She FOUGHT!!
Unfortunately, an ekg highlighted that the rhythm irregularities are still there, and now she is back on the harder sedatives. Tomorrow they have to figure out what's next.
14 Feb update:
Ashley made it to Minneapolis and is being evaluated by type medical team there. She will likley be put on ECMO (amazing tech, look it up) while they wait on a donor heart for a transplant.
Kris and Logan are there and will be by her side for as long as it takes, likely around 4 months.
13 Feb update. Ashley is enroute to Minneapolis to undergo very specialized care and Kris and Logan are heading out today to join her. The fight isn’t over but they are staying as strong as possible. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts!
