Shay is a 47 year old mother and grandmother who was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2021. She immediately began treatment consisting of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. In fall of 2022, she found out the cancer spread to her lungs and in February 2023, she found that it spread to her brain. Although she lives In Pennsylvania, she is waiting to hear if she can be put into a clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. If accepted, she will need to remain in TX for a month, all out of pocket.
Her husband, Eric, 50, was diagnosed in July of 2023 with advanced squamous cell carcinoma. He has a surgery scheduled in August of 2023 and will begin radiation and chemotherapy soon after.
Both work full time, however now that both will be actively receiving treatment, one of which is out of state the financial burden is great.
It is the hope that through spreading their story, the generosity of others can help one burden of uncertainty.
