Help Austin Get the Fresh Start He Deserves

Meet Austin, a 4½-year-old Bernedoodle with the gentlest heart.

Austin recently found himself in an incredibly difficult situation. His owner suffered a stroke, and her husband had passed away. Through circumstances beyond anyone's control, Austin's care needs became overwhelming and unfortunately Austin suffered the consequences.

When we picked Austin up, it was clear he needed help. He had recently been shaved down to the skin after going many months without grooming. Underneath, we found numerous wounds, scabs, and areas of irritated skin, some of which were actively bleeding. He is underweight, appears to have significant dental issues, and has only received a rabies vaccine.

What has amazed us most is Austin's spirit. Despite being uncomfortable and clearly in need of medical care, he remains incredibly sweet and trusting. He allows us to touch his sore ears, paws, and tail without complaint. He seeks out affection and seems happiest simply lying near someone.

Austin is currently being fostered by my retired parents, who welcomed him into their home immediately. He has been wonderful with children and every person he has met. Even after everything he has experienced, he continues to show nothing but kindness and love.

Austin's immediate veterinary needs include:

  • Comprehensive veterinary examination

  • Vaccinations

  • Bloodwork and health screening

  • Treatment for his skin wounds and infections

  • Dental evaluation and treatment

  • Neuter surgery

  • Nutritional support and ongoing medical and grooming care

We are committed to giving Austin the care and second chance he deserves, but the cost of his medical care is expected to be substantial.

If you are able to contribute, we would be deeply grateful. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Austin's veterinary care and recovery. If you're unable to donate, sharing his story is another meaningful way to help.

Austin has already been through so much. Our hope is that the rest of his life will be filled with comfort, good health, and the love he has always deserved.

Thank you for being part of Austin's journey.

❤️ Austin and his foster family

Austin Update:

Austin's been doing well adjusting and healing to his new life. His ears and paw are healing well and are almost completely healed. He is up to date on his vaccines, he has his neuter appointment tomorrow. He had his first public outing today and did so well walking around tractor supply. A little bit of leash training and he is going to be a pro.

He has no problems with storms or fireworks which is awesome. He loves children so much, just working on not jumping when he's excited to play or get pets.

Thank you so much for everyone who has donated- he has had quite a bit of medical expenses since my parent took him on! All you help is so appreciate if able to donate we still have the fundraiser open. Thank you!!!

Austin Update:

This little goof ball is starting to feel more at home. With feeling more at home he has become more brave about jumping on counters, running away to the neighbors house to check out their lady dog, and hopping the porch fence to go check out the neighbor who bit him.

He definitely will be in need of some type of training or GPS collar. He will be headed to the vet a few more times to check out his sutured (or self removed sutures) and get his ears treated again. The big snip will be July 8th. He is taking his antibiotics and pain medications like a champ. He let me reapply his foot bandage with just some bribes of Brazilian cheese bread.

We still could use help with his vet bills as they are starting to add up! The smallest bits are helpful. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated already!

Austin Update:

Unfortunately today we found ourselves at the emergency vet. Austin was curious about the neighbor's dog and the neighbors dog bit through Austin's front paw.

Austin continues to reflect his sweet and overly kind personality, he let us wash and wrap his foot despite it hurting terribly, he cried and tried to wrestle away from the vet but never once nipped or was mean. He eventually just got some time to chill and he pulled off the dressing himself.

He's now with the vet getting sedated and sutured up. She is also going to get a closer look at his ear scabs since it looks like he does have pieces of his ear missing.

His ear infections and other skin infections are clearing up. He has been taking his meds like a champ.

He has decided that he loves mom and has become her little shadow. He also found his spot on the couch for naps. The only time he has no chill is for car rides. He loves a good car ride and wants to be in a car always.

Thank you so much for all you support so far- any help for my parents while they get Austin back to full health

A few photos from the day he was picked up. We are not sure how long he had the wounds on his ears or tail. He likely was very matted and we suspect whoever cut shaved his hair down clipped the skin on the tip of his ears.
