In April 13, 2020, Amanda, her husband and two children lost everything they owned in a EF3 tornado to include their home, vehicles, workshop, personal belonging just to name a few. While they are still trying to rebuild their lives and find their new normal, it has been a difficult journey for Amanda medically. Amanda suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury with bleeding on her brain during the tornado. While she does a great job hiding it, she struggles with short term memory loss, and her injuries has had a negative effects to her cognitive and motor skills. She is in need of a specific individualized therapy and treatment for traumatic brain injuries not offered in her area but unfortunately insurance has denied reimbursement for treatment. The out of pocket expenses for therapy has cost approximately $22,000 to date. She is also in need of an at home hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber as a part of her treatment plan. Insurance has also denied coverage for this. The chamber cost approximately $10,000-$15,000. She will also need to go back in December for another in person 1-2 week outpatient therapy.
Amanda has a fierce spirit and is a kind hearted person like no other. As a nurse, she has helped so many patients and others with no regards to herself. She often provides care outside of her job, sacrificing precious time she could be spending with her own family. The overall effects of her injury have been devastating for her family, however. To watch her go from being one who juggles everything in life with such grace and ease, to one who has to struggle at the simple tasks in life.
While every brain injury and recovery is different, this treatment offers some hope to her and her family, that she can have a better quality of life, as it has been shown that over 68% of patients have significant improvement in memory, cognitive and motor skills.
How can you help? You can help by donating to help ease the financial burden her and her husband are facing, especially as he is the only source of income at this time. The goal is to raise $30,000 to help cover expenses for her to receive and continue to receive the treatment she deserves.
Please prayerfully consider making as generous a gift as you can today toward reaching or exceeding our goal.
