Friday evening, our wonderful and loving family four footed friend was injured badly when she was hit by a truck. Both of her back legs are broken, just as our hearts are broken too. We have gone to two vetinery hospitals and have walked away in dispair from both. The first one horrified us by saying the one leg should be amputated and the other one requires surgery. We did not have the money for either of these prodedures so they suggested we put her down (youthanasia). After a gut wrenching talk between ourselves, we feel it is best to try and save her. We love Shamrock. She is family.
For Mike, it brings back all too well the memory of when he was also hit by a truck. The doctor in the emergency room wanted to amputate his severely broken ankle and foot. He begged the doctor to please at least try to save his ankle and foot first before doing this extreme measure. Well, Mike still has his foot and ankle. If you never heard this story about him before, you'd never even think he almost lost them for he walks around on both feet as one should. And we are going to try to save Shamrock's legs also.
I didn't realize til after going to the second vetinary hospital that it is one of the most expensive ones in the area (like Hollywood expensive). So we did not make any progress there.
We did get Shamrock's leg x-rays and some medications from the first place, and are grateful for that. We are trying to keep her as comfortable as possible.
So I am humblely asking for financial help to save my dog's life and legs. I am in the process of calling all the vetinary places in the area to see who can work with me regarding their services. Thank you for any help you could provide.
