Hello Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I am a pediatric nurse, and throughout my career I have had the privilege of caring for many children and families. One young boy who touched my heart deeply was Jordan Shower, whom I first met when I cared for him at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital when he was just 5 years old. Jordan was diagnosed with ADEM (Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis), a rare but serious disease that causes inflammation and damage to the protective covering of the nerves in the brain and spinal cord.
Jordan is now 18 years old. Sadly, his health has declined significantly, and he is currently in hospice care. His family is preparing for the heartbreaking reality that he will soon gain his wings. His amazing and loving single mother, Jasmine, wants to give him the funeral service he deserves, but the costs are overwhelming and unaffordable.
I am reaching out to ask for your support in helping this wonderful family. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward easing the financial burden of Jordan’s funeral expenses and allowing Jasmine to honor her son’s life with the dignity and love he deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering a gift to help Jordan’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness will make a world of difference.
Sincerely,
Joanne VanSlyke

It is with profound sadness that I share that Jordan passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, surrounded by love. His family has endured a long, unimaginably difficult journey, one marked by courage, devotion, and endless love.
