The California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4) is an all-volunteer nonprofit that works throughout California to improve colorectal cancer prevention, screening, and access to treatments for all Californians. We also work at both the state and national level to change what is covered by insurance for patients to help eliminate surprise billing when patients access services related to screening and treatment.
C4 has a community grants program to fund clinics serving underserved populations (income, racial and ethnic barriers to care, insurance coverage, etc.). These efforts promote better delivery of care to their patients through improved colorectal cancer screening programs, while also helpfing improve their referral services for those identified with cancer. Since 2013, donations to our program have helped us distribute over $640,000 to health systems throughout California.
However the Covid-19 pandemic has had profound impacts on both our funding for this program, as well as what is happening at clinics where patients are being screened. Because of Covid-19, many clinics have experienced 90% drops in screening rates, which means more patients are likely to be diagnosed with advanced cancers that may be more difficult to treat and have higher death rates. We are trying to raise funds to help restore our funding to at least $100,000 per year to be distributed to clinics throughout the state so we can work to reverse these trends.
All donations to this fund will be greatly appreciated and will go specifically to our efforts through our community grants program.
