Layla’s Hope Elite: From the Streets to the Court
Layla’s Hope Elite was created to meet a need we see every day in our community — youth who are navigating instability, disconnection, and limited access to positive opportunities.
For many of these young people, the challenge isn’t just finding something to do — it’s finding a place to belong.
Through Layla’s Hope, an initiative of the Mental Health Transformation Alliance, we launched Layla’s Hope Elite, a basketball team designed to provide structure, mentorship, and meaningful connection for youth in the Tri-Cities area, including those who are street-connected, experiencing housing instability, or at risk of negative influences.
What started as an idea has quickly become a reality. The team is now actively practicing and competing, and the impact is already visible. Youth who once felt disconnected are showing up consistently, building relationships with peers and mentors, and gaining confidence both on and off the court.
For these players, basketball is more than a sport. It is:
- A safe and consistent space
- A source of positive identity
- A connection to trusted adults
- A pathway toward confidence and personal growth
However, sustaining and growing this program requires continued support.
This funding will directly support:
- Team uniforms that instill pride and belonging
- Equipment and training resources
- Travel and tournament participation
- Access for youth who would otherwise be unable to participate
By removing financial barriers, we ensure that no young person is excluded from this opportunity due to circumstance.
Layla’s Hope Elite is not just building a team — it is building hope, resilience, and community connection for youth who need it most.
With your support, we can continue to expand this initiative, reach more youth, and create lasting impact both on and off the court.
