My beautiful sister, Donna Marie, a mother of two, woke up this morning to no job, a complete loss of income, due to a 2 alarm fire that tragically destroyed her employer, Ground Pat’i, located at 3124 David Drive, Metairie, La. Donna has enthusiastically served her regulars and non regulars at Ground Pat’i since March of 2022. Donna had been aimlessly looking for another service job post hurricane Ida after her employer “Port Side Cafe” did not rebuild due to the amount of devastation that affected the building at 11698 River Road, St. Rose, La. Donna had the pleasure of serving locals and non locals at Port Side for 12 years. Donna’s, genuine smile, attention to detail and charismatic demeanor made her a favorite of many. If you have ever had the pleasure to sit and be served by Donna, you experienced a one of a kind conversation with “a parish accent” to boot. Our family has experienced many tragic occurrences over this last year and we thought for sure 2023 we would be turning over a new leaf and heading for a more positive and prosperous year. You could find Donna at Ground Pat’i, Monday through Friday serving your local community during lunch; with an occasional weekday night and or weekend day picked up as needed to help the staff or to earn additional money for her household. With this unexpected loss of income, and undoubtedly the building needing to be rebuild from the ground up, it puts Donna in a position of no income coming in and no start date to recuperate the wages and tip loss while unemployed. While the owners navigate this tragedy and work through what lies, rebuilding and starting from scratch, most of the employees plan on returning as their hearts are to be there when the “new doors” reopen to happily serve their customers. With that, I ask that if it is in your heart to donate on behalf of Donna and her children , please do so. I would like to help raise funds “a safety net” for Donna, my nephew and niece during this time to help aid in the burdens that come with an unexpected job loss due to an unforeseen event that has not only affected my sister but Donna’s co-workers as well. If you know my sister you know that she is one of the strongest women who hides a lot of grief and stress behind her beautiful smile and crystal blue eyes. She is deserving of any monetary assistance, prayers sent her way. It will not go under appreciated.
