A properly fitted wheelchair with a power-assist system is making a huge difference in Kya’s life. It’s allowing her to conserve energy, reduce strain on her body, and move around safely even on difficult days. The power assist helps her propel the chair without overexerting herself, which is especially important given her fatigue and joint instability.
Most importantly, it allows Kya to live a more active and engaged life. As a young person, being able to get out, participate in everyday activities, and stay connected to the world around her is incredibly important for both her independence and her mental health.
Both of which I got to witness in person at a wedding a couple weekends ago and then again when I proposed to her at Trans Joy!
Our Goal
We are hoping to raise $3,000 for:
A properly fitted wheelchair
A power-assist device to reduce strain and fatigue
And now an electric folding wheelchair as her FND gets so flared up sometimes she can’t even managed her power assist or hold her her up and she needs the features of an after market chair that will do that like the OAS Cruise(https://oasmobility.com/products/oas-cruise-pro?srsltid=AfmBOor_4dqzAkdR9XCwtwc9TGaTEYcbnDDY8tAYIGw4DmP5pNUZPC-O) and since insurance only gives you one wheelchair every 5 years, even though Kya’s needs have drastically changed since her first one was issued earlier this year, we will still have to pay out of pocket for a second one on top of this first one.
Unfortunately, specialized mobility equipment like this is very expensive, and insurance did not cover the full cost of what she needed. With the power assist
So we have the wheelchair and power assist on a payment plan. And now will have to try the same thing with the electric wheelchair if we can find someone willing to put it on affirm while it’s $500 off during brand month🫠
How You Can Help
Every donation, no matter the size, brings Kya closer to greater mobility, independence, and quality of life. If donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser can make a huge difference and help us reach people who may be able to help.
Reach out to me if you could affirm a 1k purchase and I could make the monthly payments back to you. This would be a huge relief for Kya and some days she just can’t move her arms enough to work power assist.
A wheelchair with power assist and electric wheelchair aren’t just equipment. For Kya, it means freedom, energy for the things she loves, and the ability to participate more fully in life instead of watching from the sidelines.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for supporting her in this journey.
With gratitude,
Lux Quinn
