In the early morning hours of January 24th our chimney caught fire. We live in Tennessee and as most know, we were in the middle of an historic ice storm. My Husband and I were keeping a fire in our fireplace to help keep our home warm. He and I were both up, monitoring the storm and generally just hanging out when we suddenly lost power. Thinking it was either the storm or a tripped breaker, we both got up to take a look. When we rounded the corner in our hallway, what we saw was terrifying. The entire wall behind our fireplace was glowing bright orange from the mantle to the ceiling. I grabbed a fire extinguisher and my husband grabbed water and we both tried to put the fire out. I called 911 because I recognized it was a lost cause. We were able to get out of the house with our four dogs and the fire department put out the fire. But, as anyone who’s ever been in or seen a house fire knows, the water is as bad as the fire. While the fire was mostly contained to the common space of the house, (living room, kitchen, dining room) there are sections of the roof missing from the attic fire. We have our lives and our basic necessities for which we are humbly grateful. We no longer have a home. We are currently in a hotel until we can find housing. Anything you are able to help with at this time would be a blessing. I know everyone is just doing their best right now.
