Friends, I need your help today. Three firefighters are fighting for their lives and you know I wouldn’t reach out if it wasn’t important and urgent.
The Zagros Mountains, a long and beautiful range on the Persian plateau, have been burning for years due to natural fire. Unfortunately, the government has not done a lot of work on these natural fires, and the local people have to bear the dangerous weight of controlling the fire. They are not very well equipped, and in some cases, they use basic tools such as shovels. Moreover, they do not have the proper training for these dangerous situations. As a result, many brave volunteer firefighters have been badly burned or killed in the course of their duties.
In an incident, two summers ago, Milad Azimimi, Reza Niknam, and Farzad Maleki, three of the volunteers from Ravansar, were battling a blaze when the winds suddenly and unexpectedly shifted. The three firefighters were caught in the fire and badly burned, suffering second and third-degree burns over 50% of their bodies.
During these two years, without any support and financial backup, they could not go through proper treatment and faced a lot of suffering.
With the community's support, they started their treatment a few months ago, and so far, they have undergone two surgeries each. The estimate by their doctor is that they will need 5 to 6 surgeries and then physical therapy. They need support if they are ever going to recover. The cost of their treatment is USD$6,000, an astronomical sum for a family of his means under normal times, but with the extreme inflation over there, it is simply an impossibility.
My good friend, Saeid AnvariNezhad, is working on the ground to try to organize treatment I am working to raise money for that treatment and any donation will make a world of difference.
