My daddy is a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer. On January 1st he went to Ste Genevieve hospital bc he had been falling, vomiting, couldn't eat, and had a cough. They did a Respiratory panel on him and some minimal bloodwork and sent him home with an antacid prescription call Pepcid. Less than 10 hours later on January 2nd he was transported from home to Mercy South where he had 6-8 broken ribs on his left side, bacterial pneumonia (not Covid related), and was in severe septic shock. He was almost immediately put on life-support where he stayed on life support off in on for two months. My daddy was fully cognitively able to take care of himself prior to this. I had purchased a house on October 21 so that I can move my daddy in since he was getting older he turned 60 in the hospital. He was supposed to move in on January 1 however all of this started that day. Now to where we are today, He’s alive. However my daddy is no longer the man I know or knew. His Mind is gone. And he is now the equivalent of a toddler who can't walk of toilet. I go went to obtain permanent guardianship and conservatorship at 3 PM yesterday 3/8/2022. It saddens me to have to adopt my 60 year old father. There are so many what if that are going through my mind. Blue Cross Blue Shield federal insurance sucks. I’m going to start sharing the fundraising link because I have to buy him a walk in shower that can accommodate his wheelchair or shower seat because he can no longer walk (his brain can't process how to take a step)and I can’t get him into the shower that is currently here bc of its size being to small for even a lawn chair. . He can no longer Do anything for himself. And as of now I don’t know how I’m going to be able to keep the kids in school because I have zero support and there is not a school bus that can take them. So unless I find a church to help me so that someone can sit with my daddy in the morning and in the afternoons for me to pick up and take the kids to school and daycare then I will have no choice but to withdraw them which is going to not only be devastating to her with the kids but a nightmare. But as far as my father he is no longer the Kevin everyone remembers. That man passed away on January 2, 2022. Now there are so many things not covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield federal employee insurance. And these are basic necessities like his feeding tube medication and incontinence supplies and pads and many other items not covered. However Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid pays for it which pisses me off because he's been paying premiums for over 30 years why should free insurance get these items covered but not someone who has paid their premium every year for years and years. Here will have to have 24 seven care and the only money I will be able to bring in is through on my art and craft business theough online sales.
Update:3/15 BCBS denied further hospital coverage. Appealed and they kept the denial decision. 3/26 finally after weeks we got him into a skilled nursing facility in Eureka so we could start the process of bringing him home to spend what little time we have left together.Insurance will not cover any of the hospital bills for the prior week and a half. (He was only their bc of protocols and ins. bS and we couldn't get a covered skilled facility to accept him. He couldn't come home bc that hospital couldn't order what was needed to bring him home and his primary care doctor would no longer follow him)
he will be in a memory care facility for at least the next 3-4 weeks before I can bring him home.
