Nearly five years ago I had complete kidney failure and after a very long hospitalization, I started hemodialysis treatments.  One of the first things I realized at the dialysis treatments (treatments average four hours, three times a week), was that the other patients that surround you and are going through the same thing quickly become like family.  One such person for me is Gloria Duff, known by me and many others as “Globaby.”  Spending hour after hour next to someone, you learn a lot about them.  You discuss all kinds of things....even the things you would typically avoid, like religion and politics.  There have been some treatments that Globaby and I would talk the entire four hours solid.  We have laughed until we hurt, we have cried until there were no tears left.  We call each other to check on family members and if one of us is late showing up for dialysis, the other is on the phone finding out why.  So to say that I have a particular interest in helping her is a gross understatement.  What I have to share is extremely exciting and an answer to many prayers by many people.  After being on the kidney transplant list for nearly five years and after several preparatory surgeries, Globaby has been contacted by Vanderbilt University Hospital and told to have her bags packed.....she would soon be RECEIVING A KIDNEY!!!  How wonderful is that news?  After the implantation of the gifted kidney, Globaby will have about a week long hospital stay, then she will need to live near the hospital for several weeks where the new kidney can be monitored daily.  Then, after that time, she will need to travel to Vanderbilt on a weekly basis for a couple of months for additional monitoring.  Since Globaby’s source of income is Social Security Disability, the costs of travel and rooming for the transplant puts a huge financial burden on her.  It is estimated that she will need close to $5000 extra for her travel and rooming once she receives her kidney.  I would like to ask that you consider contributing to a GoFundMe account for Gloria Duff and celebrate financially with this tremendous gift of life.
